Case Study
Geoff, 55.
A professional ski instructor whose ACL tore on the mountain. Reconstructed, rehabbed, and back doing what he loves.
A skiing accident in March 2018 left 55-year-old Geoff, a professional ski instructor, with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damaged meniscal cartilage in his left knee. He could manage everyday activities like walking, but kneeling, sudden movements and sport brought significant pain, and the injury substantially affected both his career and his lifestyle.
Geoff consulted Mr Trikha about ACL reconstruction. Examination revealed substantial anteroposterior laxity, with positive pivot shift and Lachman tests confirming the ACL damage. Mr Trikha explained the procedure, addressed Geoff’s concerns and cautioned him about future pivoting and twisting activities.
Geoff expected a lengthy recovery and worried about returning to skiing, but progressed remarkably quickly. On the day of surgery he was already moving on crutches, bearing 40% of his weight on the leg, and was encouraged to stay mobile and use a Game Ready machine. His recovery exceeded his expectations, and he now enjoys daily long bike rides and exercise without pain.
“I would advise future patients to get moving as fast as possible. Do the exercises and get on a bike as soon as you can. Basically, inactivity is a killer. Keep active. Push yourself a little more daily. The surgeon knows his job. You have to do yours.”Geoff
“My overall experience has been first class. A pleasant hospital and friendly staff. A thoroughly professional, no nonsense surgeon who displayed considerable skill in repairs to knees. Follow his advice and your experience will be a positive one.”Geoff
“I’m so glad Geoff has recovered so well. His commitment to exercise to support his recovery has definitely helped him get back to activity so quickly and I wish him well in the future.”Mr Paul Trikha
